We're in for a hot weekend, which is the perfect time to get outside, hit the beach, or plan an exciting day at the park with your friends and family. When planning for a weekend in the sun it’s important to be prepared; by hydrating, cooling off, taking breaks in the shade and protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. This week’s blog covers ideas for sun protection, water/beach games and frozen lemonade recipes. Follow along for a few great ideas to beat the heat!

Sun Protection

Protecting yourself from the sun should be your top priority when planning for a day or weekend in the sun.

Sunscreen is the most important and easiest way to protect yourself and your kids from sun burns and sun exhaustion. Cover yourself head to toe with sunscreen and be sure to re-apply every couple of hours, especially if you are in and out of the water.

Park yourself under an umbrella in the sand for the ultimate shade spot. Make this your meeting spot, lunch spot, or sand castle building contest spot. It will give your body a break from the sun and let yourself re-charge for the next couple of hours.

Sun Hats
One easy way, especially if you know you'll be directly in the sun all day, is to protect your head and face from the sun with sun hats. It'll give you some shade, protect your skin, and let you last longer in the sun.

Beach Games

Water Fights
Fill containers or water balloons with water and have a water fight. This idea is a fun way to get everyone involved, no matter their age. It’s a, refreshing, and competitive way to beat the heat. Just remember, sun screen can occasionally be washed off after a water fight, so don’t forget to reapply!

Pack your cooler with water bottles if you are planning the day away from your home. Freeze a few in advanced to act as make shift ice packs. They will melt throughout the day, leaving the water ice cold and refreshing!
