Babysitting can be super fun, especially if it is during the day and you can do outdoor activities. Odds are, depending on how long you are babysitting for or how many kids there are to look after, you may run out of creative and fun things to do. This week’s blog post will give you a few creative ideas that kids will love! These ideas will pass the time and ensure that the kids don’t spend the entire time watching TV.

Craft Bin

A craft bin can be made using a box or fancy bag and can be filled with all the items you need to create a craft. This idea is something that can be brought to any babysitting job you may have and it can be added to as you go along. Stock up on markers, crayons, paint, construction paper, stickers, glue and more! The possibilities are endless. These craft items are a fantastic way to always be changing up your craft for the day. The kids will love the idea of using craft items that they don’t use everyday.

Build a Fort

Are you babysitting at night time and the kids want to watch a movie? Make a fort out of pillows and blankets and set it up in front of the TV. The kids will love the idea of making a fort and it will be a perfect movie watching adventure.

DIY Playdough

Who doesn’t love to create shapes and figures with playdough? Playdough can be played with for hours and will keep the kids happy and occupied. There’s no need to go out and buy it from the store, you can easily make playdough from scratch out of simple food ingredients.

Homemade Playdough

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 2 Tablespoons of cream of tartar
  • 1 Tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • Food Colouring

Instructions:
  • First mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a pan.  Add the water and mix well.  Now cook the mixture over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes.  You’ll need to stir constantly until the mixture becomes firm.
  • When the mixture is firm, remove from the pan and knead until soft.  Now just add in the food colouring!

Water Balloon Fight

Need an outside activity to beat the heat? Try having a water balloon or water fight! The kids will have a fun competition while staying cool in the hot sun. Fill up balloons with the hose or tap and fill two large buckets with balloons. Keep score on the sidelines or jump in and play along!
