Hello April! Out with the Old, in with the New!

Barbados News

A new month means a new agenda, and sorting out your space should be at the top of your list! Now is the time to tackle the projects you’ve been neglecting, and to finally sort out that one miscellaneous junk drawer in your kitchen. These tips will help organize the dresser in your room, clean up your office desk, and even categorize your fridge. Why not start the month off fresh? Out with the old, in with the new!

Focus Your Efforts in One Place

It can be overwhelming if you’re thinking about the many places in your house that need organization. It’s always a good idea to start small and focus on one specific area. Start with your desktop or your children’s homework area. The first step is to decide what you need to keep, and realistically, what can be thrown away / donated. Sorting through old mail or loose paper can seem like a heavy burden, but once completed, the rest of the process will be a breeze. Pick up extra bins for loose school supplies and / or folders for loose paper. Your desk will be organized in no time!

Need to Add Organization to You Fridge?

Does seeing your messy fridge causes you unnecessary stress? Come dinner or breakfast time with the kids, the last thing you want to be doing is rummaging around for those ingredients you swear you picked up the last week. Adding bins to your fridge gives the illusion of more space, and makes organizing your food and condiments a breeze! Designate each bin to a certain food group and organize away - this will save you loads of time!

Learn the Art of Folding

While hanging clothes in your closet helps them from getting wrinkled, learning the art of the fold lets you also utilize the space in your drawer. Fold up your scarves, dresses, and pants and place them vertically in your dresser. Folding clothing items will give you exponentially more space than hanging, as folding uses the space much more effectively. While you may only be able to hang 10 or so items in your closet, you can often fit double the amount of clothes if folded correctly in drawers. Designating specific drawers to certain clothing types will also save you time, especially when you’re rushing to get your kids to school!

That Infamous Drawer in Your Kitchen

Everyone has that one drawer in his or her kitchen - the one that magically accumulates all of those miscellaneous rarely needed items. April is the month to sort it out. Empty the drawer completely, and start by throwing away the absolutely unnecessary items.  Dividing items into “sections” either using small bins or cardboard dividers, will give you clarity on what’s needed, and what you’re holding onto for no real reason. Once it is cleaned out and divided, begin to re add the items that are most important!
