Go Wild - Outdoor Games to Beat Boredom
With July quickly approaching, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Grab your kids and hit the back yard, the beach or the park! Children need at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, so why not make exercise time into a fun game or challenge to get your blood pumping!
There are endless ways to create a fun time outside regardless of where you’re heading, and the next few ideas will be a huge hit with your kids, we promise! Stop by Dollarwise for any outdoor toys or supplies you may need to make your day the unforgettable!
This idea is best if you have some time to prepare the scavenger hunt. The more time you have to prepare, the more challenging the hunt will be, and the longer the hunt will last. You can get creative with this game! Add clues and different challenges throughout the hunt that will provide challenging yet fun activities, eventually leading to a final prize or clue that the kids will love (we recommend home made popsicles to beat the heat). A scavenger hunt will keep your kids busy and it will also be fun way for them to get the exercise their growing bodies need. Remember; easy scavenger hunts are no fun! You can always give them some direction as they go along!
Sand Castle Competition
If you’re spending time on the beach why not create a fun little competition between you and your kids. Why not have a sandcastle competition and test out who has the best skills! Use seashells and other things you find on the beach to make a fun castle or sculpture of an animal. Add a timer on it for extra competition, or give them all the time they need. You don’t always need sand pales and other tools, kids are always so creative, they’ll only need their own two hands!
3 - First-aid
Try this fun craft with your kids next time you go outside to play. With just three ingredients, this sidewalk paint is safe for the environment and super fun to play with. Transform any boring sidewalk or driveway into a work of art.
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup shaving cream
- food coloring
- gallon freezer bags
- plastic squirt bottles
- Inside a gallon-sized freezer bag, mix flour and water together so there are no clumps.
- Add 10 drops of food coloring and 1/2 cup shaving cream. Close bag and mix well using your hands to massage the outside of the bag.
- Cut the corner of the bag and squeeze mixture into a squirt bottle. Don’t cut the too large of a hole in the corner or it will be difficult to get into the bottle.
- Secure lid and squeeze onto sidewalk to draw with. Keep some toothpicks nearby in case the squirt bottles get plugged with a clump of flour.
